Is Stress from the Pandemic Really Stress from the Pandemic or is it Deeper?

I did a tapping demonstration today with a group of 20-25 women on Zoom that I’d never met before. I asked the volunteer to find something that was very stressful for her right now that she’d like to tap on. She told us that she hasn’t been able to see her young granddaughters because of the pandemic and that was very stressful for her because she was used to picking them up from school and daycare every day.

It made her feel uneasy, she was feeling it in her heart and the intensity was about a 7 or an 8 on a 0-10 scale. We tapped a few rounds and she started to feel some relief right away. The intensity had dropped down to a 3. When I asked her what emotion the 3 might have represented, she told me sadness. We tapped a few more rounds on the sadness and it brought tears to her eyes and she shared the feeling that came up now was helplessness.

We tapped on the feeling of helplessness and when I asked her what that reminded her of when she was younger, she gave us the funniest look and instantly went to a moment when she was 8-years-old and her father hit her mother and she thought that her mother was dead. She had been carrying that helpless feeling of an 8-year-old in her body all these years. She was able to release it today. The whole process took about 10-15 minutes and the 8-year-old helpless feeling that she had been carrying in her body was released. We talked about how when our parents do something like that who can we go to to feel safe and be told it would be ok? Nobody. We had to deal with it all on our own. I call that the trauma after the trauma. She referred to the feeling after tapping as liberation.

Several of the other women spoke up about their experiences of “borrowing benefitssimply watching someone else do EFT on their issues, while tapping along with them, can help you reduce the emotional intensity of your own issues.

This is a beautiful example of what my experience has been tapping with people about their fears, anxiety and stress of the pandemic. It’s almost always based on a traumatic experience that happened to them as a child that has been buried in their subconscious for many years and is being triggered by the experience of the pandemic. So they are actually experiencing the fear of the pandemic today from the perception of a child.

Are you, or someone you know, stressing or struggling with fears about the pandemic and would like to have some relief? I look forward to being your tour guide to emotional freedom.

Big hugs!
